Casamayor Decisions Seda; Castillo wins

MIAMI, FL - Former WBA super-featherweight champion Joel Casamayor won a unanimous decision over Daniel Seda on Saturday night.

A native of Cuba, Casamayor frustrated Seda early in the 10-round lightweight bout with lead rights and lefts to the head.

Early in the fifth round, Casamayor, 31-2 (19 KOs) floored Seda with a left and combinations to the head.

But Seda, 20-1-1 (16 KOs) survived the knockdown and later in the fifth knocked down Casamayor with a left-right combination to the head.

The knockdown inspired the gritty Seda who became more aggressive and began to press the fight to Casamayor.

Seda chased Casamayor in the final rounds and landed short rights to the head. However, the crafty Cuban continued scoring with lefts and rights to the head.

All three judges had Casamayor winning the bout by scores of 98-92.

Casamayor, a native of Cuba who lives in South Florida, and Seda, of Puerto Rico, both weighed 133 pounds.

In an earlier fight at the American Airlines Arena, unbeaten heavyweight Eliseo Castillo scored the biggest win of his career with a ten round unanimous decision over former two-time heavyweight champion Michael Moorer.

The 36-year-old Moorer, who weighed in at a career high 251 pounds, brought into the ring a 36-pound advantage. However it was all for not, as Castillo used his boxing skills to frustrate the slower and out of shape Moorer in the 10-round bout.

In an exciting eighth round, Castillo managed to trap Moorer along the ropes and connected with hard combinations to the body, while Moorer landed his own right uppercuts, and lefts and rights to the head.

The judges scored the bout 99-91 and 97-93 twice for Castillo, who improves to 18-0-1 (14 KOs). Moorer falls to 46-4-1 (36 KOs).

"(Castillo) came out and he ran, move around a lot and I was trying to keep catch up," said a frustrated Moorer. "I'm disappointed because I know I'm better than that."

Moorer won the heavyweight title with a decision over Evander Holyfield in 1994, but lost it in his first defence, when George Foreman miraculously stopped him in the 10th round.

Two years later, Moorer recaptured the title in a decision over Axel Schultz. In a rematch with Holyfield the following year, Holyfield stopped Moorer in eight rounds.
